Anniversary Trip

Surfside Beach
Originally uploaded by mkb_nf.

Last year (for our first anniversary) we went to Charlestown, South Carolina. This year we stayed with tradition and headed to the South Carolina again... this time Myrtle Beach.

While we spent our actual second anniversary (today) driving back to Athens, we had four full days to see a show, do a lot of dining and shopping, spend some time on both Myrtle and Surfside Beach (we thought that Surfside Beach was actually nicer and had more fun playing in the ocean there), and play a lot of mini-golf (I regained my title after Lisa had beaten me in Fort Oglethorpe for the first time in the eight years we have been together).

It was a nice trip, a good anniversary, and a place we'd like to visit again.

Getting Flickr set-up

Stu Best's Stage
Originally uploaded by mkb_nf.

Okay, you should notice the Flickr badge to the left of the screen. This is a pretty good indication that I've got my Flickr account up and running.

To start off with, I posted some of my favourite digital images that Lisa and I have taken over the years back home in Newfoundland. In the future I'll try and add pictures from our travels down here. I'll also go back through and pull out some of the more interesting ones from the past two years of living in the United States.

Anyway, to begin this new aspect of the blog, I've selected a photo that Lisa took when we were home for Christmas last year (I believe). She's standing on the side of the road at dusk looking out over Bennett's Cove in Wesleyville with Stewart Best's fishing stage in the background.

Yes, another blog!

Yes, I have created yet another blog. This is added to my other personal blogs (i.e., Virtual High School Meanderings and Breaking into the Academy) and the organizational blogs that I maintain (i.e., AERA's Rural Education Special Interest Group and AECT's The Program).

Why am I starting yet another blog? Well, I created Virtual High School Meanderings to toss around ideas that focused upon my own research interests. I started the Breaking into the Academy blog to talk about life in graduate school. The organizational ones are due to my involvement in those organizations, kind of like being a webmaster in a more traditional sense. This really left no where to post personal stuff.

So, why yet another blog? Well, Lisa (my wife) and I travel a fair amount. We see a lot, we visit a lot, we experience a lot. So, this blog is a place just to reflect on these travels and other personal things that come my way. It is also a place where I can post pictures of our travels (and from our home - Newfoundland, aka "the Rock").

So, that's why I've created this blog. Out of the five blogs that I currently maintain, this will probably be the one that I update the least, but I will do my best to keep adding things on a fairly regular basis.

That's al for now... Just to get started. I'll add my flickr account here soon, once I get some good images uploaded to it.
